WASHINGTON (AFP) - Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden says his team believes he is on track to win the US Election 2020.

Addressing his supporters in his home state of Delaware on election night, Joe Biden said his team was confident of winning Arizona, a state won by President Donald Trump in 2016.

"I am here to tell you tonight that we believe we are on track to win this election," he said. "We are feeling good about where we are. We believe one of the people who has suggested we have already won Arizona," he added.

Biden urged his supporters to remain patient as the election result is unlikely to be known until at least Wednesday, local time. "We knew this was going to go on, but who knew we were going to go into maybe tomorrow morning, maybe even longer," he said.

"Because of the unprecedented early vote and the main vote, it was going to take a while."

John Barron says the Biden campaign is extremely confident of victory. The importance of the state of Pennsylvania is heightened after the President claimed victory in Florida.

Pennsylvania is worth 20 votes in the electoral college.

A presidential candidate must win 270 electoral college votes to win the election.

Biden told supporters in Delaware that his team believes they will win Pennsylvania. He also said he would not be claiming victory or conceding until all votes have been counted

Donald Trump posted on Twitter around the same time Mr Biden spoke. He said he would be making a speech during the night, claiming a "big win".
