RAWALPINDI (92 News) – Jamiat Ulema Islam-S (JUI-S) chief Maulana Samiul Haq has been martyred during a murder attack at his residence in Rawalpindi. As per reports, religious scholar, the former Senator and the emir of the JUI-S in Peshawar has been assassinated. The death news has been confirmed by JUI-S Peshawar President Maulana Haseem. This was also confirmed by Maulana Samiul Haq’s son Maulana Hamidul Haq. He said that his father was attacked at his residence by some unknown assailants, who stabbed him. “Maulana Samiul Haq was resting in his room during Asr time when his driver/guard went out for 15 minutes. When he returned, he found Maulana Samiul Haq dead in his bed and his body covered in blood,” Hamidul Haq said. JUI-S chief Maulana Samiul Haq assassinated in stabbing incident. The attack was happened at his residence in private housing society in Rawalpindi. The unidentified persons entered house in absence of gate-keeper and stabbed with knife. Maulana Samiul Haq was admitted to Safari Hospital in Rawalpindi, where he succumbed to his injuries. It was also reported that the JUI-S chief was assassinated with knife attack. The wounds were clearly seen on his chest, arms and neck. The JUI-S chief was one of the senior most religio-political figures in Pakistan who had twice been elected as a senator. He was member of the Senate of Pakistan from 1985 to 1991 and again from 1991 to 1997. He was head of the Darul Uloom Haqqania, one of the largest and most influential madrassas (seminaries) in Pakistan located in Akora Khattak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The JUI-S chief headed a committee formed for peace talks with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in 2014. His party has been an ally of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The PTI also gave him ticket for the 2018 Senate election, but he could not be elected to the upper house.
