Justice Gulzar takes oath as acting CJP

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Justice Gulzar Ahmed, senior judge of the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan, took oath as acting Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) on Saturday. Justice Mushir Alam administered the oath to the acting chief justice at a simple at the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry. The Judges from the SC and the Sindh High Court (SHC) attended the oath taking ceremony. The judges of the SC, including Justice Maqbool Baqar, Justice Munib Akhtar, and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah attended the ceremony. The judges of SHC, including Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui, Mazhar Alam, and Abdul Malik Gaddi, were also present on the occasion. Besides, lawyers, including SHC Bar Association president Muhammad Aqil and Karachi Bar Association (KBA) president Naeem Qureshi, also attended the ceremony.
CJP to deliver lecture at Cambridge University
Currently CJP Asif Saeed Khosa has reached in London at the invitation of Cambridge University Union. CJP Asif Khosa will deliver a lecture on June 9 at Cambridge University, UK at the invitation of Cambridge University Union. Justice Asif Saeed Khosa had done his tripos and LLM from the University of Cambridge, UK before being called to the Bar at the Lincoln’s Inn, London. Chief Justice Khosa happens to be the first Pakistani ever to have been invited by the Cambridge University Union to deliver a speech in its 200 year old history. The luminaries invited in the past included Sir Winston Churchill, presidents Roosevelt and Reagan, prime minister Margaret Thatcher, the Dalai Lama, Senator Bernie Sanders, late Stephen Hawking and the late US Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia to name a few. The guests invited by the Union this year included the prime ministers of Malaysia and Nepal.
