ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Justice Asif Saeed Khosa took oath as 26th chief justice of Pakistan on Friday (today). The oath taking ceremony of the new CJP held at the President’s House. Meanwhile, Justice Khosa replaced outgoing CJP Mian Saqib Nisar whose tenure came to an end with his retirement yesterday. He would serve as the CJP for almost eleven months, and will retire on December 20 this year. Justice Khosa bright career Justice Khosa was part of the seven-member larger bench of the SC which heard the contempt of court proceedings against the former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani. Justice Khosa also headed the larger bench of the apex court that heard the Panama Papers case against deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family. Another reason for the popularity of Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, he immediately announced the court decisions instead of reserving verdicts. He set a record to disposed 11 thousand criminal cases from 2014 to 2018. Justice Khosa declared the appointments of the NAB chairman Justice (r) Dadarar Hussain Shah and Fasheh Bukhari null and void as per law. He was also the part of bench who make the 18th amendment, 21st amendment and military courts to the provisions of a country’s constitution. Justice Khosa announced the sentence PML-N leader Nehal Hashmi for a month, Aisa Bibi and Mumtaz Qadri’s verdict, the judge of Islamabad High Court Judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui to dismiss form his post and the serious treason case against former prime minister Shaukat Aziz. He also declared verdict of the special court against former chief justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and former minister of law Zahid Hamid null and void. He ordered to dispose the treason case against Musharraf immediately. In the real manner, Justice Asif Khosa is famous as professional judges. Profile Born on December 21, 1954 in Dera Ghazi Khan, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa matriculated from Multan in 1969 and completed his intermediate from Government College, Lahore in 1971. He received his undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Punjab, and his LLM degree from Queens College at Cambridge in 1978. He enrolled as an advocate at the Lahore High Court in 1979, and then at the Supreme Court in 1985. On February 18, 2010, Justice Khosa was elevated to the position of a Supreme Court judge. Justice Khosa has taught at a number of universities, including University Law College, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan; Punjab University Law College, Lahore; Pakistan College of Law, Lahore; Civil Services Academy, Lahore; National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Lahore. He has also served as a visiting lecturer at National Police Academy, Islamabad; Staff Training Institute of the Services and General Administration Department of the Government of the Punjab; Training Course for Civil Judges conducted by the Lahore High Court; and the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Justice Khosa is in-charge of the Federal Judicial Academy, Islamabad since 2015, and is also a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan and the Supreme Judicial Council of Pakistan since 2015. He is married with two daughters and four grandchildren. He enrolled an advocate of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on November 13, 1979 before enrolling as an Advocate of the Supreme Court on September 12, 1985. Justice Khosa has handled thousands of cases pertaining to constitutional, criminal, civil, service, revenue and election laws as an advocate of the SC and HC apart from writing a few books as well. Barrister Khosa was appointed as a LHC judge in May 1998. On Nov 3, 2007, Justice Khosa refused to abide by former president General (retd.) Musharraf’s presidential order declaring a state of emergency after suspending the constitution and demanded judges of the superior judiciary to retake oaths under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO). On August 18, 2008, Justice Khosa was restored to his position as a HC judge in the wake of an unprecedented mass movement to restore the superior judges sacked for not retaking their oaths under the PCO.
