Justice (r) Javed Iqbal appointed new NAB chairman

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – President Mamnoon Hussain has appointed Justice (r) Javed Iqbal as the new chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB). According to the notification of the Ministry of Law and Justice, the appointment was made after consultation with leader of the House and the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly for a non-extendable period of four years from the date the new chairman assumes charge of the office. Justice (r) Iqbal headed the Abbottabad Enquiry Commission, made to probe a raid by US Special Forces in the city. Justice (r) Iqbal was appointed as a Supreme Court justice in 2000 and retired in 2011. Justice (r) Iqbal has served as the head of the commission that investigated the USA operation in Abbottabad in which al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden was killed. The four-year term of incumbent NAB chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry will end on Oct 10. The appointment of the chairman is made by the prime minister in consultation with the opposition leader for a period of four years.
