Karachi suffers major power breakdown after torrential rainfall
KARACHI (92 News) - Prolonged unannounced power outages as K-Electric system failed to supply electricity more than half areas of the metropolis on Friday.
According to the reports, the citizens of Karachi are facing troubles after power breakdown a day after heavy rains wreaked havoc in Karachi.
It was learnt that some 650 feeders of K-electric trip alongside various Pad Mouted Transformers (PMT) succumed to faults after heavy and incessant downpour, suspending power supply across 60 per cent of Karachi.
The parts of Karachi that are deprived of electric supply include many areas of Gulistan-e-Johar, Lyari, Malir, North Karachi, Quidabad, Landhi, Orangi, Korangi and Shah Faisal Colony.
The various parts of the areas ranging from Kaemari to Johar, to Gadap, and from Bizerta Lines to Nagan Roundabout have been deprived of electricity.
It was also reported that the power supply is also not restored in areas Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Azizabad, Liaqutabad, Gulberg, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Sirjani Town and Kemari. While many parts of Karachi and K-electric stations are flooded with waters.
Meanwhile, the KE claimed that its teams were working to the best of their ability to deal with the current circumstances and restore electricity with limited available resources.
“Many KE vehicles got stuck in flooded roads and streets across the city. Also, our staff is working in long shifts because relievers were unable to make it to service centers due to water logging,” the company said in a statement issued earlier today.While power has been restored where possible, KE teams are coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure swift power restoration to other locations. KE therefore warned that restoration work may take longer than expected time as the situation remains 'difficult'.Several areas remain inaccessible due to high water levels. KE teams are working around the clock to restore power as swiftly as possible.
