Rain brings a respite from sweltering heat in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) – Rain brought a respite for the citizens battered by record temperature of 42 degree Celsius. The increase in temperature had broken the 38-year-old record of hot spell in the city. Rain made the weather pleasant in the areas, including Defence, Clifton and Korangi. Soon after the rain, water accumulated on roads and underpasses and disturbed the traffic flow. The low-lying areas gave a pond-like look. A half of the city was inundated by the rain. Moreover, over 400 feeders tripped, causing problems for the people. On the other hand, rain with gusty winds turned weather pleasant in several cities across the city. In Lahore, heavy rain brought the mercury down in several areas, Muslim Town, Garden Town, Thokar Niaz Baig and Raiwind Road. In Kasur and adjoining areas, several feet water accumulated in low-lying areas after the incessant rain. Khudian Khas Road gave a pond-like look. Several feeders tripped in the district and as result, power supply remained suspended for several hours. Several cities, including Sharqpur and Jacobabad, also received heavy rain. According the Met Office, weather will remain hot in a majority of areas across the country. However, rain coupled with gusty winds and thunderstorm is expected in upper areas of Punjab, Eastern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit. Moreover, rain with duty winds is expected in Southern Punjab.
