Karnataka home minister gives clean chit to Amnesty International

BENGALURU (92 News) – Karnataka home minister Dr G Parameshwara has on Sunday given a clean chit to Amnesty International in the anti-India sloganeering controversy. Addressing a public event on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and former chief minister D Devaraj Urs, Karnataka Home Minister Parameshwara said that "I do not believe Amnesty International conducted any seditious activity." The clean chit comes even as the organization faces sedition charges over an event where anti-India slogans were allegedly raised. “Amnesty International is not new to Bengaluru. The organization has been functioning here for a long time. I have not heard in the past about it (Amnesty) or anyone from it involving in any anti-national activities,” said the home minister. Amnesty International had organized an event as part of a campaign to seek justice for "victims of human rights violations" in Indian-held Kashmir last Saturday that took an ugly turn with heated exchanges and alleged raising anti-India slogans.
