Kashmir events under close watch, peace must be ensured along LoC: US State Dept

WASHINGTON (92 News) - The United States is closely observing the everyday happenings in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

It urges all stakeholders to maintain peace and stability along the Line of Control (LoC).

The US State Department in a statement issued late Monday, emphasized upon Indian government to respect human rights in the valley.

Kashmir is not India’s internal affair and that the arrests and house-arrests of Huriat leaders is a matter of great concern for the US.

In its reaction in the aftermath of violence in occupied Kashmir, the US State Department said: "We take note of India’s announcement revising the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir and India’s plan to split the state into two union territories.

"We note that the Indian government has described these actions as strictly an internal matter. We are concerned about reports of detentions and urge respect for individual rights and discussion with those in affected communities," the statement added.

The State Department also called for all stakeholders to maintain peace.

"We call on all parties to maintain peace and stability along the Line of Control," its statement read.

The state department said though India termed Kashmir its internal affair, but actually it's not.

UN on Kashmir

The United Nations declared that the region of Kashmir is a recognized disputed region and is ready ti play its role to normalize the tense situation in the valley.

The spokesman for the UN secretary general emphasized upon both India and Pakistan to settle their resolvable issues through dialogue.
