Khursheed Shah’s physical remand extended for five days

SUKKUR (92 News) – A session court in Sukkur on Monday extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) senior leader Khursheed Shah for five days in assets beyond income case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has to present PPP leader in an accountability court after expiring his remand but he was presented before Sukkur Session Court judge Sharaf Din Shah due to leave of accountability court judge. Khursheed Shah was taken in the ambulance and use wheel chair to present in the court. Earlier in the day, the NAB prosecutor pleaded to extend in his physical remand for another 15 days in absence of the PPP leader. The judge refused to grant remand of the PPP leader in absence of the accused. Later, the court extended the physical remand of Khursheed Shah. On Oct 27, the PPP senior leader was admitted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Sukkur after deteriorating health conditions and high blood pressure. The officials of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) shifted the PPP leader to the medical facility after he complained of chest pain. The medical team will run tests including checking the Troponin I levels in his bloodstream. Troponin I is a marker of cardiac injury. Shah is expected to undergo an angiography at NICVD Sukkur later on Sunday. The procedure uses X-ray imaging to see the heart’s blood vessels to determine if there’s a restriction in blood flow going to the heart. Earlier in the previous hearing, the court extended the physical remand of Khursheed Shah 15 days and ordered to present him on November 4. Amid tight security measures, the NAB officials produced PPP’s senior politician in the courtroom. On September 21, the court remanded Shah in the accountability watchdog’s custody for nine days. Shah, who served as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly during the term of the previous government, was arrested by the bureau from Islamabad. A large number of PPP workers, including his son, MPA Syed Farukkuh Shah, his son-in-law and nephew, provincial minister Syed Owais Qadir Shah, MPA Manzoor Wasan, Sukkur Mayor Arslan Islam Shaikh, and others had gathered around the courthouse during the hearing to express solidarity with the leader. The counsel for Shah, Mukesh Kumar Karara, had argued that his client was being subjected to political vendetta. The NAB has raided the house of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah. It is noteworthy that the PPP senior leader is under-custody in a case pertaining to assets beyond known source of income. The NAB frisked the rooms of Khursheed’s wife and children. The team also recorded measurements of PPP leader’s house. The corruption watchdog body has taken important documents for the house. On the other hand, two wives among eight accused has got pre-arrest bail till October 16 over fear of arrest.
