NEW DELHI (92 News) – Indian External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj has on Tuesday said that the government will make every possible effort to save the life of Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) spy Kulbhushan Yadav given death sentence in Pakistan.

Addressing the Indian Upper House, she cautioned Pakistan government to consider the consequences for bilateral relationship if they proceed on this matter.

“Hiring a Supreme Court lawyer is a small issue. We will take it up with the President,” Sushma added.

The stance of the Indian government comes after protests are being held in several places in the country against death sentence given to Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) spy Kulbhushan Yadav.

Swaraj tells Indian Upper House that the government will “go out of the way to save him” and called Kulbhushan Yadav a son of India.

The minister said that hanging of Yadav will directly affect bilateral relations of Pakistan and India.

Earlier, Indian Research and Analysis (RAW) agent Kulbhushan Yadav was awarded death sentence through FGCM by Pakistan Army for espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan.

Security forces had arrested Indian Research and Analysis (RAW) Agent/Naval officer 41558Z Commander Kulbushan Sudhir Jadhav alias Hussein Mubarak Patel on March 3, 2016 during a Counter Intelligence Operation from Mashkel area of Balochistan, for his involvement in espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan.

The Indian spy was tried by the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under section 59 of Pakistan Army Act (PAA) 1952 and Section 3 of official Secret Act of 1923 and awarded death sentence.

FGCM found Kulbushan Sudhir Yadhav guilty of all the charges.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa had also confirmed his death sentence awarded by FGCM.

He confessed before the Court that he was tasked by RAW to plan, coordinate and organize espionage/sabotage activities aiming to destabilize and wage war against Pakistan by impeding the efforts of Law Enforcement Agencies for restoring peace in Balochistan and Karachi.

The accused was provided with defending officer as per legal provisions.
