Kulbhushan Jadhav case: ICJ ruling on death sentence today

THE HAGUE (92 News) – The International Court of Justice (ICJ) will today (Thursday) give its ruling in Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) spy Kulbhushan Jadhav case.

The verdict will be announced at 3.00pm Pakistan Standard Time, three days after the United Nations’ highest court in the Hague heard arguments by India and Pakistan.

The Indian government had taken against the death sentence of its spy Kulbhushan Jadhav to International Court Of Justice (ICJ).

India had instituted proceedings against Pakistan, accusing Pakistan of “egregious violations of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations” in the matter of the detention and trial of an Indian national, Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav.

On the other hand, Pakistan had challenged the jurisdiction of International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the case of Indian application regarding conviction of its spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.

Presenting Pakistani stance, the Director General of South Asia in Foreign Office Dr Muhammad Faisal at ICJ in The Hague, said under Vienna Convention, hearing of criminal cases does not fall under the purview of the international court.

Indian Naval Commander Jadhav was arrested by Pakistani Forces during an operation in Balochistan province and he has confessed the killing of dozens of innocent Pakistanis.

The Indian Spy was sentenced to death after fulfilling all necessary legal requirements and he was also given counsel to defend allegations against him.
