Lahore chakki owners announce Rs2 per kg increase in flour price

LAHORE (92 News) – The new price of flour has been set as Rs 70 per kilogram (KG) in Lahore after Chakki [grinding machine] owners once again increased the price of flour by Rs2 per kilogram. According to the details garnered, wheat price in the open market surged to Rs2,300 per 40kg from Rs2,100 in about a week, chakki owners say they are left with no option but to increase the flour rate. According to president Naan Roti Association, the flour price has been increased as government has failed to decrease the wheat price and hinted to go on strike after Eid. He said that the price of wheat in grain markets has crossed Rs 2,300 per 40 kg bag. Meanwhile district administration has decided to conduct raids against flour mills and Atta chakkis for checking prices. Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar has ordered the concerned officials to ensure availability of flour at price fixed by government. In a statement, the Punjab Chief minister expressed anger over flour crisis in the province and said that he will not tolerate any hurdle in availability of flour at government prices. CM Buzdar further said that abundant wheat is available and he will not allow hoarding mafia to exploit masses. Earlier, the millers have increased the flour price by Rs3 per kg in the city. After the increase, flour is being sold at Rs 68 per kg. During a month, the flour rate has been increased by Rs 8 per kg.
