Law Ministry submits written reply in Senate on NAB efficiency

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Ministry of Law and Justice Friday submitted a written reply in the Senate on the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) efficiency.

The session of Upper House debated on the efficiency of anti-graft watchdog body in which the Senate was told that the NAB recovered over Rs 480 billion in the past ten years.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani chaired the session. The law ministry told that the anti-corruption watchdog recovered the amount as plea bargain and in cases of bank default from 2011 to October 2020.

The anti-graft body directly recovered over Rs 46.38 billion and more than Rs 395 billion from other sources. Over Rs 248 billion were collected in 2020 – the most in the decade. NAB Lahore collected the maximum amount (over Rs 10.89 billion).

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said the anti-corruption watchdog did historic recoveries in the past two years which is unprecedented.

To a question during the Question Hour in the House on Friday, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said that PTA has so far blocked around one million Uniform Resource Locators containing objectionable content. He said promoting pornography, blackmailing women and personal attacks cannot be tolerated. He said pornography and anti-Pakistan content should immediately be reported to PTA for blocking of such material.

The House has now been adjourned to meet again on Monday at 5pm.
