Lawyers Action Committee rejects call for strike

KARACHI (92 News) – The Lawyers Action Committee on Tuesday rejected call for strike for boycotting judicial activities given by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC). The lawyers rejected the call for strike over references against top judges. They also thanked their brethren in the Punjab Bar Council for rejecting the call for strike and showing up to work. The committee congratulated lawyers across the country upon the rejection of the call for strike and called it a win for rule of law and the constitution. The Lawyers Action Committee also approved the resolution in the favour of Supreme Court and Supreme Judicial Council. Addressing a press conference, the committee members mentioned that they were bipartisan in the case and were in favor of a fair and impartial inquiry. They also mentioned that some lawyers are working on their personal agenda. It is noteworthy that the PBC called for strike to boycott judicial over references against top judges. A day earlier, Lawyers Action Committee expressed disapproval over call for strike issued by Pakistan Bar Council in context to Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s case. The committee expressing their dismay over the call by Pakistan’s Bar council rejected the call for strike and demanded that no force is used against those not wanting to participate. The committee struck down the forceful call and an appeal against it was submitted to the registrar of the Sindh High Court. The application entailed that enforced closure of courts on the day reserved for the strike should be stopped.
