Let’s talk with each other, not against each other: Abdul Basit

NEW DELHI (92 News) – Pakistan's High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit said Tuesday that India has rebranded cross border fire as surgical strike. In an interview with an Indian newspaper, Abdul Basit said that let’s talk with each other and not against each other, adding that the Kashmir dispute is the basic cause for conflict between the two countries. He argued in favor of a sustained dialogue and result-oriented engagement, which he said is in the mutual interest of both countries. He also stressed on the need “to bring diplomacy to centrestage”. The ambassador said that for the first time, India has acknowledged violating the ceasefire. “The need of the hour is to have “serious and sustained diplomacy and result-oriented engagement.” He said that there were no signs of any raid as Pakistani and foreign journalists visited the area where the cross-border firing took place. As per reports, two Pakistani soldiers were killed as Indian force resort to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC). Basit said that the attack in Uri and another in Baramulla underlined the need to resolve the Kashmir dispute between the two countries. India and Pakistan claim disputed Kashmir in its entirety but administer it in parts.
