LHC accepts apology of Ahsan Iqbal in contempt of court case

LAHORE (92 News) – The Lahore High Court has accepted apology of former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal and disposed of contempt of court notice issued to him. A three-member bench of the LHC, headed by Justice Mazahir Ali Akber heard the case in Lahore on Monday. Accepting a written apology submitted by Iqbal, the court let off the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader with a warning. Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi advised Iqbal to adopt good behaviour during court proceedings. The petition, which submitted against Ahsan Iqbal, stated that Iqbal had used contemptuous terms for judges. The petitioner's lawyer Azhar Siddiqui had stated that it was the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority's (PEMRA) duty to keep a check on contemptuous speeches. After the hearing, speaking to the journalists outside the court, Ahsan Iqbal said that they respect the Judiciary and all political parties should work together for the betterment of Pakistan. Meanwhile, Lahore High Court has issued bailable arrest warrants of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abassi. A three-member bench of LHC, headed by Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi issued the warrants while hearing a petition seeking registration of treason case against former Prime Ministers Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
