LHC annuls Jail Road signal-free project

LAHORE (92 News) – A three-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) annulled the Jail Road signal-free project on Friday, ordering the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to remove machinery immediately from the site. The bench headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah heard five different applications. The court ruled that the LDA had no authority to start the project in this way. “Under the law, only local government can start such project. The local government elections will be held in September and the LDA cannot exceed its limit,” it said. The court remarked that such project cannot be launched without permission of the Environment Department and fulfilling other requirements.
