LHC bans cutting of trees to curb smog in Lahore

LAHORE (92 News) - Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court banned the cutting of trees to curb smog in the provincial capital.

He also directed the Punjab government to do legislation to declare the cutting of trees a criminal offence. "Situation is already worst due to smog in Lahore and it should not be further deteriorated by cutting trees," he observed.

He directed the Environment Department not to issue the no-objection certificate (NOC) regarding the cutting of trees for any project.

The court also ordered to display billboards bearing the emergency numbers in the rush areas in case of any violation.
