LHC declares River Ravi project illegal

LAHORE (92 News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday declared the River Ravi project, the first mega project launched by the PTI government, illegal.

Announcing the verdict reserved on December 21, Justice Shahid Karim ruled that the land acquisition under Section 4 of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) is also illegal. "The agricultural lands can only be acquired in a legal way. The schemes planned without the Master Plan," he ordered.

The court also ordered to stop work on the project immediately. It also ordered the RUDA to return the loan received from the RUDA.

The court ruled that land for the project was acquired in violation of the 1894 Act. "In addition, the Amendment Ordinance is against Article 120 of the Constitution," the court remarked.
