LHC forms full bench to hear plea against Sharifs’ Avenfield conviction

LAHORE (92 News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice on Saturday formed a full bench to hear a plea against Sharif family's conviction in Avenfield properties corruption reference. As per details, the LHC chief justice constituted a full bench comprising Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza, Justice Sajid Mehmood Sethi and Justice Mujahid Mustaqeem. A three-member bench of the LHC headed by Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza will hear the petition seeking annulment of the punishment handed to the Sharif family. The bench will hear the petition on August 8 (on Wednesday). Earlier on July 6, Accountability Court Judge Bashir Ahmed sentenced Nawaz Sharif to 10 years and Maryam Nawaz seven-year jail term in the Avenfield reference case. The court also fined Nawaz Sharif eight million pounds and Maryam Nawaz two million pounds. Captain (retd) Safdar has been sentenced one year for abetting the crime. Meanwhile, perpetual warrants of Nawaz Sharif’s sons Hassan and Hussain Nawaz have been issued. Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Safdar have been disqualified from contesting the elections. Nawaz Sharif has been sentenced under section 9 A of the NAB Ordinance, while Maryam has been convicted under section 9A(12) for abetting the crime.
