LAHORE (92 News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday granted bail to the lawyer who had smashed the head of a judge with a chair. The two-member bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi heard the bail plea of Imran Manj advocate. The court suspended his sentence and ordered to release after furnishing two surety bonds worth Rs200,000 each. The petitioner stated that the ATC had not fulfilled the legal requirements while announcing the verdict. He said that the verdict announced against the facts is in clash with the law. Lawyers are observing the strike against the sentence across Punjab. On May 23, an anti-terrorism court in Faisalabad had awarded over 18-year imprisonment to Imran Manj advocate for smashing judge’s head with a chair in Jaranwala. The court also fined him Rs 250,000 in total. On April 25, Imran advocate had attacked Senior Civil Judge Khalid Mehmood Warraich with a chair during court proceedings and fled. After the incident, the Jaranwala Bar Association had disassociated itself from the lawyer and the Punjab Bar Council was approached to cancel the licence of the accused. After the verdict, lawyers gathered outside the court and tried to storm the court premises.
