LHC orders to include transgender community in census

LAHORE (92 News) – The Lahore High Court has on Monday ordered the authorities to include transgender people in the national census to be held in March. Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah resumed hearing the case. During the proceedings, the federal government assured the court that the transgender community will be included in the population census. The applicant lawyer Sheraz pointed out that the number of transgender people have not been ascertained in the census and even now they think the government will not include transgender community in the census to be held in March. The petitioner said that the transgender people are also citizens of the country and part of the society after which the representatives of Ministry of Population and attorney general assured the court of including transgender people in the census.
