LHC orders to release journalist Imran Riaz on bail

LAHORE (92 News) - The Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered to release journalist Imran Riaz on bail on Saturday.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi heard the petition moved by lawyers Shazib Masud, Mian Ali Ashfaq, Rana Abdul Maruf Khan and Mian Izhar Ahmed on behalf of Imran Riaz.

The court ordered him to appear in the court of a magistrate after Eidul Azha. Moreover, the court adjourned the plea for quashing the case against Imran Riaz till July 19.

On Tuesday, the Attock police had arrested Imran Riaz who is facing charges of treason in multiple cases. He was later granted relief by a local court in the wee hours of Thursday, only to be immediately arrested by a team of Chakwal police outside the courtroom.

He was then shifted to Lahore, prior to which a local court of Chakwal district had allowed his judicial remand. Later, the Lahore police had handed over the journalist to the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) in a case pertaining to the abetment of mutiny and criticism of state institutions.
