LAHORE (92 News) – A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the legal status of e-challan of vehicles on Tuesday. Justice Muzammal Akhtar Shabbir, who heard the petition, has sought a written reply from the chief operating officer, Safe City and CTO. The court questioned why vehicles are being issued e-challan without amending the law. The petitioner stated that there is no concept of e-challan under section 116(a) of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance. “After the merger of Safe City Authority with Traffic police, there is need for amending the Motor Vehicle Ordinance,” he said. He said that it is violation of the law to do e-challan of vehicles without its mention in the constitution. The petitioner prayed to court to nullify the e-challan by the Traffic police and the Safe City Authority.
