LAHORE (92 News) The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday severely reprimanded Kasur police over a viral video showing arrested men and women from a dance party, some with shaved heads, being publicly humiliated in custody—an act Justice Ali Zia Bajwa declared "unacceptable in any society."
Presiding over a contempt petition against Kasur police officials, Justice Bajwa demanded to know under what law such actions were carried out, noting that “no religion or society allows such acts.” The footage, reportedly mixed with scenes from an Indian film, was widely circulated on social media, sparking outrage.
The video followed an April 4 police raid on a farmhouse near Pakki Havali village, where 30 men and 25 women were arrested for alleged “obscene dancing” and drug use. A local court later ordered their release due to lack of evidence.
Kasur DPO Essa Khan informed the court that officers who filmed and circulated footage of detainees were suspended and recommended for dismissal.
He also admitted the SHO had prior contact with the party organisers.
Justice Bajwa questioned the legality of filming suspects, issued contempt notices to the SHO, IO, and a constable, and summoned the Punjab advocate general and DIG to the next hearing.
The case has been adjourned, with a full report from the Punjab IG expected at the next hearing.
