August 23, 2019
LAHORE (92 News) – Justice Shahid Mubeen of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday suspended the notification issued on August 19 that made amendments to the constitution of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The court sought a written reply from the PCB on August 27. Ahmed Nawaz and Munir Ahmed, the petitioners, had made the PCB and others parties in their pleas. The petitioners’ counsel contended that the PCB Board of Governors was neither consulted nor taken into confidence before amending the constitution. He stated that PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani had also exceeded his powers. He prayed to court to nullify the amendments. After the suspension of the notification, PCB Board of Governors members have been restored. Moreover, the status of regional and departmental cricket has been restored and all the presidents and other office-bearers have been reinstated. On August 21, the federal government had issued a notification of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) new constitution. Under the new constitution, the prime minister will be able to give a policy guidelines to the board. However, he would no longer have the authority to remove the chairman. This comes after the removal of seventh clause, which was about the chairman’s removal and the dissolution of the governing board. The PCB chairman is further empowered in the new constitution while under the new constitution the chairman will be accountable to the Board of Governors.
