LHC suspends verdict nullifying Medical Colleges Admission Policy
October 21, 2019
LAHORE (92 News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday suspended the verdict nullifying Medical College Admission Policy. The two-member bench restored the Medical Colleges Admission Policy 2019. The Punjab Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) had filed an appeal against the verdict of the single bench. On October 15, LHC Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti had set aside Admission Policy 2019 by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and directed the University of Health Sciences (UHS) to offer admissions as per previous regulations of 2018. The court allowed several petitions and declared that the impugned regulations, namely MBBS/BDS (admissions, House Job And Internship) Regulations 2019 were ultra vires to the Constitution. Some students having dual nationality had moved the petitions challenging the new regulation for being discriminatory and contrary to their fundamental rights. After hearing the arguments, the court allowed the petitions and struck down the 2019 admission regulations. On October 1, the court had issued a stay order and restrained the UHS from completing admission process.
