Life at standstill as lockdown continues for 107th day in IHK

SRINAGAR (92 News) – Normal life continued to remain paralyze for the 107th straight day on Sunday in Kashmir due to strike following killing of Burhan Wani on July 8. While there were curbs on the movement of people anywhere in Kashmir, the restrictions on assembly of four or more people were in place throughout the Valley for maintaining law and order. The Valley is on a boil following the killing of Burhan Wani on July 8. More than 100 persons have been killed and thousands others have been injured in the clashes that began on July 9. With more than 100-days long unrest showing no signs of ending, local authorities have warned people against venturing out in the night and have also instructed shops and businesses to remain shut. The curfew will remain imposed across the valley while restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPc (criminal procedure code) will also continue across the Valley including Srinagar. The Indian authorities have shifted senior Hurriyet leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq to a hut in the high security Cheshma Shahi area of Srinagar where he has been placed under detention. The hut was declared as a sub-jail under a notification by the Indian state home department. With the month-long unrest showing no signs of ending, local authorities have warned people against venturing out in the night and have also instructed shops and businesses to remain shut. Previously, in occupied Kashmir, six civilians including a boy were killed and several others injured due to the firing of Indian forces on peaceful protesters in Srinagar, Budgam and Islamabad districts. Five protesters were killed after security forces fired on protesters in Beerwah area of Budgam district. Another youth from Anantnag district of South Kashmir died during clashes with the security forces today. Dozens of people have been injured in the protests. With these killings, the death toll in the ongoing Kashmir Intifada has risen to 80 in the past 39 days. The intifada was triggered by the extra-judicial killing of Burhan Wani, on July 8, this year.
