LNG case: Khaqan Abbasi given deadline for submitting reply till April 25

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – The National Accountability of Bureau (NAB) gave a deadline to former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for submitting his reply in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) corruption scandal till April 25. According to the sources, the key progress developed in the LNG scandal case as the investigation has been entered in the final phase. The sources said that NAB had issued six notices to Abbasi and given him a questionnaire but he hasn’t submitted his answers. He has already asked NAB three times to give him more time. The investigation into the corruption scandal has entered its final stages and NAB Director-General Irfan Mangi has been informed of the recent developments in the case, the officials added.
LNG scandal: SHC grants 10-day protective bail to Miftah Ismail
On the other hand, Sindh High Court (SHC) approved protective bail of former federal finance minister Miftah Ismail in the liquefied petroleum gas (LNG) scandal. The ex-minister moved the court after receiving the call up from National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for inquiry in the scandal. The court accepted bail plea against surety bond of 200000 rupees. The Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader pleaded that he should be given two week bail before approaching Islamabad high court (IHC). However the court approved the bail for 10 days. Earlier, in October 2018, the NAB had reopened investigation into the scandal against former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Miftah Ismail and others. The file of the case was closed and it was in the back burner in NAB’s Karachi office. The anti-corruption watchdog is inquiring into a case registered in 2015 against the ex-PM for awarding a LNG import contract which caused a potential $2 billion loss to the national exchequer.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s name added to ECL
On Friday, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s name was added to the exit control list (ECL). According to details garnered, the former prime minister’s name was added to ECL upon the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), and was also approved by the federal cabinet. The ex-premier’s name was included in reference to the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) case where he along with a few others was accused of unlawfully giving LNG terminal contract for a 15-year period to a company of their own choice in defiance of the stated rules.
