Load-shedding continues to frustrate citizens
LAHORE (92 News) – As the blistering heatwave continues across the country, parts of Punjab including Lahore are facing unannounced load shedding of upto 16 hours, making the life of the citizens more miserable.
The demand for electricity continues to increase across the country while the unannounced power outages in the country have increased as the shortfall reached 7000MW.
Urban areas are suffering 16 hours of power cuts while 16 to 18 hours of load shedding is being carried out in rural areas. Many areas are also facing water shortages due to load shedding.
The citizens have expressed their concern over the policy of the government and asked the government to take appropriate measures to overcome the power outages.
Citizens have complained that Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) doesn't listen to their complaints and added that the helpline numbers provided on the bills are never answered and it has left them with no option but to protest on the streets.
Massive load shedding is also causing sleeping disorders and psychological ailments among people during the summer days.
Earlier, the residents of different localities took to streets against the prolong load shedding and disconnection of power supply to the area. The protestors held a protest demonstration outside the offices of LESCO subdivision Sheikhupura on the main road and smashed the mirrors of vehicles.
The protesters chanted slogans against the government for not taking notice of the prolonged power outages. Protestors have also burnt tyres and blocked several roads.
On the other hand, claims of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regarding improvement in power position have proved void with the start of summer.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had earlier claimed that load-shedding will be eliminated by 2018. “By 2017-2018, load shedding will come to end,” he said.
The premier said that not only will load shedding come to an end but electricity will also become cheap and accessible for the masses.
