Loadshedding continues as power shortfall increases to 8,911MW in the country

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The electricity crisis has worsened as the power shortfall increased to 8,911 MW in the country.

According to the sources of power division, the total production of electricity in the country is 21,322MW whereas the total demand of electricity is 30,233MW. Load shedding in urban and rural areas of the country have increased to 12 to 14 hours.

There are hours long load shedding in some areas due to tripping and overloading. Most of the feeders in the country are facing faults in the tripping transmission system.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed the Ministry of Railways to take all necessary steps to ensure prompt delivery of coal imported from Afghanistan to power plants. He had directed authorities concerned to devise an effective system for producing cheap electricity to provide relief to domestic consumers and industries.

The prime minister had also approved the import of high quality coal from Afghanistan in rupees instead of dollars to save the country's precious foreign exchange.
