Local court allows transfer of anchor’s murder case into ATC
KARACHI (92 News) – A local court on Tuesday allowed to transfer of the case pertaining to double murder of an anchorperson Mureed Abbas and another individual to an anti-terrorism court (ATC).
During the today’s hearing of dual murder case including Mureed Abbas, the court accepted the plea of police to shift case into the ATC. After this judgement, now the case against Atif Zaman will be trialed in the ATC.
On Monday, a local court issued notice to the defence counsel to argue on an application seeking transfer of the case pertaining to double murder of an anchorperson Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat to an ATC.
Police detained and booked Atif Zaman for allegedly killing his two business partners Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat in the Khayaban-i-Bukhari area of Defence on the night of July 9.
The prosecutor argued that the matter attracted Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 in view of the facts and circumstances of the case, adding that the same charge was also added to the identical cases such as in the murder of student Shahzeb Khan and Irshad Ranjhani.
On August 16, A key progress in the the murder cases of anchorperson Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayyat as the prosecution approved to add Anti-Terrorism Act section.
The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case appeared before the court at the outset of the case’s hearing today. The judge approved to include anti-terrorism sections in dual murder case and directed to present challan in concerned court.
Earlier, seven charges of the Anti-Terrorism Act have now been made part of the murder cases of anchorperson Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayyat, announcing that the case will be presented and heard in the anti-terrorism court (ATC).
The investigation officers (IO) announced who is working on the murder cases of Mureed and Khizar – who were killed in the recent past The SSP had added charges of terrorism in the charge sheet along with the charges that existed beforehand.
The police maintained that the second person killed with Mureed Abbas, Khizar Hayyat was slain in broad daylight in front of onlookers which struck fear in the masses.
They also added that Mureed’s murder has petrified people in the media industry from trusting individuals with their hard-earned money. Meanwhile, seven charges of the Anti-Terrorism clauses have now been made part of the case and ongoing investigations and proceedings with regards to the homicide.
The IO also said that the dual murder case comes within the ambit of terrorism.
It is pertinent to mention here that Atif Zaman, the killer of anchor Mureed Abbas, had to pay Rs1.5637 billion to the investors.
According to the preliminary report prepared by the police, Mureed Abbas had invested Rs117.2 million with Atif Zaman who had to pay Rs29.3 million as profit to him.
Atif Zaman used to pay Rs301.5 million monthly as profit to the investors. Khizar Hayat, another deceased, had invested Rs15.8 million with Atif Zaman.
On July 24, the police decided to add terrorism charges in the charge sheet, maintaining that the second person killed with Mureed Abbas, Khizar Hayyat was slain in broad daylight in front of onlookers which struck fear in the masses.
