Ch Pervaiz Elahi forms 23-member committee for approval of Local Government Bill from Punjab Assembly

LAHORE (92 News) – Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi has formed a 23-member committee for approval of the Local Government Bill in the assembly.

According to sources, the local government elections are likely to be held in Punjab after March 22 next year.

The 'halqa bandian' will be given the final shape by March 22. Maps are being purchased for demarcating the constituencies. After demarcating the constituencies, the Election Commission of Pakistan can issue the electoral schedule in consultation with the Punjab government.

The constituencies are being demarcated for the Village and Neighbourhood Elections under section 7 of the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2021.

The 'halqa bandian' will be done in 26,000 villages of Punjab. The tenure of local government representatives will come to an end on December 31.

The local government system of Punjab will be handed over to administrators in January.
