Long power outage, over-billing make life a hell in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) – Long power outage mingled with over-billing has made the life a hell in metropolis. Citizens said that 8-12 hours shutdown has become a routine matter in majority of areas, including Dalimiya, Gulshan Jamal, Lasbela, Gulbahar, Liaquatabad, Guru Mandir and Nazimabad. They said that power supply is suspended after each two hours in Nazimabad area. They added that the power supply is suspended on the pretext of either a technical fault or maintenance. They said that heavy bills had been sent to them despite the long power outage. They demanded an end to power outage and over-billing. In Hyderabad, people said that 12-14 hours unannounced shutdown has paralyzed life. Meanwhile, PTI MPA Raja Azhar announced to stage a sit-in against unannounced power shutdown from Monday. On the other hand, the power outage has caused a severe shortage of water in the city. People are moving from pillar to post for drinking water in Gulshan Iqbal, Nazimabad, Kharada, New Karachi and Orangi Town and Manzoor Colony. In Peshawar, long and unscheduled loadshedding has paralyzed life as well as badly affected business activities. Urban areas, including Dalla, Zaak Road, Faqirabad, Corporation Colony and Gul Bahar, Badhbair, Matani and Mashokel. People said that the duration of the outage is up to 18 hours. They said they were facing an acute shortage of water due to long loadshedding. The PESCO spokesman claimed that there was no unannounced shutdown in the city. “Sometimes the system is overloaded due to increase in the temperature, resulting in tripping of feeders and burning of transformers,” he said.
