Main accused in motorway gang rape case sent to jail on 14-day remand

LAHORE (92 News) - An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday sent Abid Malhi, the main accused in the motorway gang rape case, to jail on 14-judicial remand.

Police produced Abid Malhi before court amid tight security. SP CIA Asim Iftikhar submitted an initial report regarding the arrest of the suspect to the court.

The main suspect in the Lahore motorway rape case, Abid Malhi, was arrested after 33 days on Monday.

Abid Malhi was arrested by the security officers through scientific method from Manga Mandi on October 12, 2020 in joint operation of CIA and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) after 33 days. Security personnel told that geo-fencing, DNA sampling, profiling and other such procedures were used to arrest the culprit.

The police arrested Abid Malhi, the main culprit of the Motorway rape case, from the house of his father in Manga Mandi on Monday. He has been shifted to Lahore for interrogation.

Punjab Minister Information Fayyazul Hassan Chohan and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill have confirmed the arrest of Abid Malhi.

Fayyazul Hassan Chohan said that Abid Malhi had been interrogated and he would be presented in court soon. "The accused will be punished according to the law," he added.

On September 9, two dacoits identified as Abid and Shafqat had gang-raped a woman in front of her children in the Gujjarpura police area on Lahore-Sialkot Motorway.

The victim with her children was waiting for help on Motorway when the dacoits reached there. They forcibly took her to nearby jungle and raped her. The incident caused uproar across the country. Shafqat had already been arrested and is on judicial remand.
