Majority of Lahorites contracted UK coronavirus variant: UHS research

LAHORE (92 News) – A majority of Lahorites has contracted the UK coronavirus variant, said a research conducted by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) and confirmed by Quardrum Institute Bioscience.

It said that the UK coronavirus variant was found in 89 percent patients, while only two percent patients had contracted South African virus.

Dr Shahjahan, the main researcher, said that initially they had collected samples of 100 patients from Lahore and its adjoining areas. "We traced the coronavirus types through the Next Generation Sequencing and B117 was found in a majority of samples," he maintained.

He said that the research would play an important role in controlling the spread of the disease and preparation of effective vaccine.

Prof Javed Akram said that the research would disclose how the virus is changing its shape. "We can counter the disease only by knowing more and more about the virus," he added.
