Malaysian PM urges ways to sort out Kashmir issue
October 8, 2019
KUALA LUMPUR (92 News) – Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has urged ways and means to sort out Kashmir issue. Speaking to the journalists at Parliament lobby in Kuala Lumpur, he said he had also raised issue with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when they met in Vladivostok, Russia. He said according to UN Resolutions Kashmir dispute must be resolved as it is Malaysia’s policy not to resort violence but to resolve issues through negotiations, arbitration and the court of law. Mahathir said, despite a UN resolution on Jammu and Kashmir, the country has been invaded and occupied by Indian forces. He said India should work with Pakistan to resolve this problem as ignoring the UN would lead to other forms of disregard for the UN and the Rule of Law. On the other hand, the lockdown continues on the 65th consecutive day, today,  with all shops, main markets and educational institutions shut and public transport off the road in scenic Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK). As the territory entered the third month of the humanitarian crisis triggered by the Indian government’s decision to abrogate special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, normal life continues to remain paralyzed. Internet connectivity stands closed. The train between Baramulla and Banihal continues to be frozen for more than nine weeks. The authorities made several efforts in the past nine weeks to reopen the schools. However, officials admit that the students did not come to schools. The residents are facing severe hardships due to shortage of essential commodities during the lockdown. People in most of the Valley areas including Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam have not been able to harvest the apple, which may have serious impact on the economy of the Kashmiri people.
