Maleeha urges UN chief to raise voice for HRs violation in IoK

NEW YORK (92 news) – Pakistani Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi on Tuesday called on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and urged him to raise voice for human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK). In a meeting with UN chief, the Pakistani ambassador underscored the urgency of initiating practical steps to deal with the worsening situation in IoK, now in its fifth week of a lockdown. Maleeha Lodhi brief the UN chief about the grave political and humanitarian crisis, which began unfolding after India’s illegal annexation of the disputed state last month, has now reached the point that it poses a threat to international peace and security. She told Guterres that the intensifying tragedy in IoK was, in fact, an urgent call to set into motion his initiative of “preventive” diplomacy before the crisis spins out of control. “Now is the time to speak up for the law, justice and human rights,” the Pakistani envoy emphasised. "In my meeting with UN SG Antonio Guterres I  told him that the grave political & humanitarian crisis, which has unfolded after India's illegal annexation of occupied Jammu & Kashmir last month, poses a threat to international peace and security," she tweeted.

Lodhi urged for the implementation of the Security Council resolutions that pledged the right of self-determination to the Kashmiri people to decide their future. “Indian steps are the clear violation of the UN resoltuions”, she continued. The Pakistani envoy said there are already tensions which are at a peak between India and Pakistan and the situation can snowball into a much bigger crisis.
