Man handed three death sentences in Chunian rape-slay case

LAHORE (92 News) – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday convicted Sohail Shahzad for kidnapping, raping and murdering a minor boy in Chunian and handed him the death sentences on three times. The convict was handed death sentence on three times and imprisonment for life on another. The court also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs3 million on three separate counts in addition to Rs200,000 compensation to the legal heirs of the victim. In case of failure to pay compensation and fine, he will have to serve additional six months. Sohail Shahzad was convicted of kidnapping, raping and killing a boy. He is named as the main suspect in the rape and murder of four boys — three of them were residents of Chunian’s Ghosia Colony and one of Rana Town. Their bodies were recovered from sand dunes in and around the Chunian Industrial Area earlier this year. Earlier, Sohail Shahzad, who involved in killing of four minors in Chunian area of Kasur, was involved in all 4 incidents and DNA has matched. Geo-fencing for 1,649 suspects was done and DNA samples of 1,543 were tested and Sohail was involved in all murders and government would get his remand from ATC. The Convicted is resident of Rana Town near Lahore and his name was also included the lists of suspect in case. He also admitted his crime during the preliminary investigation. Shehzad was also faced the charges of sexually assaulting a child before eight years. Parents demand public hanging of convict The parents of deceased minors demanded the public hanging of the main accused. It is pertinent to mention here that four children between eight to 12 years of age had gone missing in Chunian since June. The police were informed about the body of a child in a ditch. Later, the police also recovered remains of two more minors from the sand dunes. A wave of shock and terror gripped Chunian when the police recovered the bodies. As per the postmortem examination reports, all the victims were sexually assaulted before being killed. Locals suspected a gang was behind the killing of minor boys after rape.
