MANCHESTER (92 News) – The man held after three people were stabbed at the Arndale Centre in Manchester has been arrested on suspicion of terror offences, police have said on Friday. According to the eye Witnesses, the scenes of chaos as a large number of police and emergency services descended on the area in the centre of Manchester just before lunchtime. One video posted on social media showed officers deploying a Taser to detain a suspect who was laid face down on the ground. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that four people had been treated by medics, and an ambulance spokesman said one person was being treated for "serious" injuries. The investigation into the stabbings at the Arndale shopping centre is being led by Counter Terrorism Police North West after witnesses described seeing a man "lunging" and "trying to stab random people". Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: "Shocked by the incident in Manchester and my thoughts are with the injured and all those affected. “Thank you to our excellent emergency services who responded and who are now investigating what happened." Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "Specialist officers are continuing to respond to an incident at the Arndale shopping centre in Manchester city centre. A 41-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of an act of terrorism, Greater Manchester Police Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson has said. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called to reports of a multiple stabbing at the Arndale shopping centre at 11.15am earlier today. "At this stage we believe that four people were injured during the incident – not five as previously reported. We will update as the situation becomes clear. "A 19-year-old woman– was taken to hospital with stabbings wounds. Another woman was also taken to hospital with stab injuries. Both their conditions are described as stable. "A man in his 50s has also been taken to hospital with stab wounds. "A fourth victim – a woman in her 40s - who was not stabbed – has been assessed and did not need to go to hospital following assessment by paramedics."
