Maryam Nawaz’s physical remand extended for 14 days

LAHORE (92 News) – An accountability court Lahore on Wednesday extended the remand of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz and his cousin Yousaf Abbas for 14 days in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented Maryam and Yousaf Abbas before the court. The NAB prosecutor adopted a stance that the accused were failed to tell about the money trail still now. He appealed for the extension of remand for further interrogation. On the occasion, the aggressive PML-N workers broke the admin court’s door and tried to enter the premises of the court. They exchanged harsh words with the police personnel. Later, the accountability court extended the physical remand of both the accused for 14 days. The court also ordered to produce them on September 18. Earlier, the prosecutor had submitted a report in the court and told that Saeed Saif Bin Jabbar Asadi had transferred 94 lac shares to Maryam Nawaz in 2008 whereas she further transferred 70 lac shares to Yousaf Abbas in 2019. The anti-graft watchdog body decided to freeze assets of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz and his cousin Yousaf Abbas in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. According to the sources, the corruption watchdog body has decided to stop the transferring and selling of assets related to Maryam Nawaz and his cousin. In this purpose, the NAB will write a letters to various departments for freezing all properties owned by Maryam and Yousaf Abbas. Currently, Maryam and Yousaf Abbas is under custody of the anti-graft watchdog body. On August 8, the NAB had arrested Maryam along with her cousin Yousaf Abbas in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. In the previous hearing, Accountability court judge Naeem Arshad heard NAB’s request for 15-day physical remand of the two. Special prosecutor Hafiz Asadullah and Haris Qureshi presented arguments on behalf of the accountability watchdog. Advocate Amjad Pervez is at the court on behalf of Maryam and her cousin.
