Maryam Nawaz’s short speech at PDM Peshawar rally

 She still gave a very short speech and asked the crowd to pray for her grandmother's soul, and father's health.

"I wanted to talk to you, people of Peshawar," Maryam Nawaz said. “I came to meet you but I just found out my dadi passed away in London.” She asked people to pray for her soul and the health of her father.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement is holding a rally against the government in Peshawar today.

The rally is being held at Kabootar Chowk near Ring Road and will began at 11am. Over 10,000 seats have been set up at the rally site.

PDM, the alliance of the major opposition parties, is holding its fourth power show in Peshawar on Sunday at Peshawar’s Kabootar Chowk despite government’s ban on rallies due to spike in coronavirus cases.

It is pertinent to mention here that the administration did not give it the permission for the public gathering.

The rally will be held at Kabootar Chowk near Ring Road and will begin at 11am. According to reports, over 10,000 seats have been set up at the rally site.

An eight-foot long stage has been prepared for opposition leaders in the centre of the road. Four screens have been installed at the site and an audio system has been set up as well.

Containers have also been placed at the spot while activists of different political parties have also gathered with their respective flags. Local leaders of political parties also distributed masks among the workers.

Leaders from all opposition parties such as JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz, and PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will speak at the rally.

The traffic police of Peshawar have prepared a diversion route plan for the residents to prevent traffic jams and other inconvenience.

The rally is being held despite a threat by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to take legal action against the organisers given the rise in coronavirus cases.

In a series of tweets, Prime Minister Imran Khan has sad that opposition is callously destroying people’s lives and livelihoods in their desperation to get an NRO. He also said that Pakistan’s second COVID 19 spike data is of concern as increase in the virus patients on ventilators in last 15 days rose in Peshawar and Multan by 200%, Karachi 148%, Lahore 114% and Islamabad 65% while Multan Islamabad’s Covid ventilators capacity utilization has reached 70 per cent.

"If cases continue to rise at the rate we are seeing, we will be compelled to go into complete lockdown and PDM will be responsible for consequences," Imran Khan warned. He maintained that opposition can hold a million jalsas but will not get any NRO from him.

Pm Khan further said that he does not want to take measures like a lockdown that will start hurting Pakistan’s economy which at the moment is showing signs of a robust recovery but unfortunately, the opposition’s only goal is NRO at whatever cost to the lives of people and the country’s economy.
