May 12 Tragedy: Victims await justice after 10 years

KARACHI (92 News) – The 10th anniversary of a tragedy that took place on May 12, 2007, being marked today (Friday) but those responsible for the carnage could not be determined despite the lapse of 10 years.

The courts proceedings will be boycotted today across Sindh province.

On May 12, 2007, Karachi was hostaged on arrival of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, bloodbath was publically observed in the city of lights where more than 50 citizens among lawyers were brutally killed.

Important highways were closed by containers, due to which lawyers, court judges and deposed chief justice were stranded at the airport.

Senior lawyers said that they can never forget the day, adding that the government and institutions are carrying out investigations and those responsible for the carnage will stand trial soon.

As many as 19 persons including Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar have been nominated in the case.

According to police, the Karachi Mayor and others have confessed to their involvement, however, they could not be indicted.
