Mela Charaghan: Sufi poet Madhu Lal Hussain’s 427th Urs starts in Lahore

LAHORE (92 News) – The 427th Urs of Sufi poet Madhu Lal Hussain started in Lahore on Saturday. The Urs – popularly known as Mela Charaghan (Festival of Lights) – is celebrated every year in the last week of March. On the first day, a large number of devotees from all over the country visited the shrine to pay tributes to the great Sufi poet. Many of the visitors danced to the beat of drums. Alao – a large fire – is one of the main attractions for the visitors. Candles and lamps are being thrown into the fire by those making wishes. A local holiday was announced on Saturday. Stringent security arrangements have been made on the occasion.
