Minor girl set on fire after rape in Chichawatni

CHICHAWATNI (92 News) – Unidentified men have set the minor on fire after raping her in Ward 17 of Mohammadabad area of Chichawatni. The girl had left her house to buy sweets from a nearby shop. After she failed to return home, her parents and neighbours started looking for her. After three hours, the girl was found to be burnt alive and immediately shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. The doctors said that the girl had suffered 80 to 90 percent burn wounds. The minor was later shifted to Jinnah Hospital Lahore in a critical condition where she succumbed to her wounds Tuesday morning. A murder case has been registered against the suspects, the police said. However, the FIR does not include rape charges. According to the medical report, the girl was raped after being burnt. Meanwhile, the people in Chichawatni’s Ward 17 took to the streets demanding justice for the minor. All the business centres and shops were closed bringing the commercial activity to a halt. Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident. Meanwhile on the orders of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, a high-level committee has been formed to probe into the matter. Sheikhupura RPO Zulfiqar Hameed will head the investigation committee, while Gujranwala SSP Investigation Khalid Bashir Cheema, Additional Secretary (Judicial) Interior Ministry and a representative of Punjab Forensic Science Agency will be its members.
