Misbah resigns from cricket committee, applies for head coach job
August 26, 2019
LAHORE (92 News) – Former Pakistan captain Misbah ul Haq has resigned from his post in the cricket committee and submitted his application for the key post of head coach. The 45-year-old submitted his application for the post of the vacant head coach position. “You can expect strict competition for the position [of head coach], Misbah said. “I know many highly qualified people have applied for the post of head coach.” Earlier this month, the Pakistan Cricket Board had announced it had decided not to renew contracts of head coach Mickey Arthur, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Luden. It is pertinent to mention here that Misbah has emerged as the leading candidate for the job even since he was made the camp commandant of the team’s ongoing training camp. He is also expected to land the chief selector’s role, but surprisingly he had waited until the last day to formally apply for the job. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had set August 26 as the deadline for the filing of paperwork for all the vacancies. Once officially in the running, Misbah is expected to be offered a three-year contract, just like his predecessor Mickey Arthur was. Misbah’s first official assignment would be to oversee the team during its upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.
