Model Town tragedy: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif appears before JIT, denies ordering operation

LAHORE (92 News) – Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that he had not asked anyone to launch the Model Town operation. Recording his statement with regard to Model Town tragedy on Saturday, the chief minister told joint investigation team (JIT) headed by Quetta CCPO Abdur Razzaq that he had removed all the responsible officials the same day. He said that he did not know about the decision regarding the removal of barriers from Model Town. “Then law minister Rana Sanaullah kept me ignorant about the decision,” he said. The JIT members, including Toba Tek Singh DPO Shahzad Akbar and representatives of the ISI and the IB, were also present. The JIT put detailed questions and the chief minister submitted the written replies.
