Model Town tragedy: IG Motorways AD Khawaja appointed JIT head

LAHORE (92 News) – The Punjab Home Department has appointed Inspector General of National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) AD Khawaja as the head of the joint investigation team (JIT) to probe into the Model Town tragedy. He has also served as IGP Sindh AD Khawaja. The JIT includes ISI representative Lt Col Muhammad Attique-uz-Zaman and MI representative Lt Col Irfan Mirza, IB Deputy Director General Muhammad Ahmed Kamal and DIG Headquarters Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Raza. Home Department Additional Secretary Fazeel Asghar said that the JIT would investigate the matters pertaining to the Model Town tragedy. Punjab govt assures SC of forming new JIT over Model Town tragedy Addressing a meeting in his house on Thursday, PAT chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri said that the relatives of the martyrs had been listened first time after four and a half years. He said that he had called a meeting of the core committee and lawyers on Friday. He hoped that the victims’ relatives would be provided justice. PAT moves SC to summon Nawaz, Shehbaz in Model Town tragedy case The government had agreed to form the JIT on the first hearing in the Supreme Court. PAT chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri and the daughter of Tanzeela, one of the victims, had appeared before the SC.
