Model Town tragedy: Notices issued to Punjab govt, prosecution for new JIT

LAHORE (92 News) – The Supreme Court issued notices to the Punjab government, the prosecution and the accused for forming a new joint investigation team on the Model Town tragedy. The two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing at Lahore Registry an application filed by one of the victims Bisma when PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri reached the rostrum. He demanded that a new joint investigation team should be formed on the Model Town tragedy. “The JIT is mandatory as the accused themselves were in the old JIT. Justice cannot be expected from a partial JIT,” he maintained. He said that the victims could not appear before the JIT due to government pressure and fear. The PAT chief lauded the steps taken by CJP for providing justice to the victims.
